It was another awesome event for us! Our fourth straight in June which has been undoubtedly our best month in history. We almost won more money in the month of June than we did in the entirety of 2014. We’re hoping this trend continues throughout the rest of the year! Our final bet of the night was another 2 unit play as we had Eddie Gordon to defeat Antonio Carlos Jr. The bet was at 2.71 (+171), but by fight time the line had dropped to 2.50 (+150) or so. Actually pretty much all the main card underdogs had dropped at that point so it seemed the public was loving their underdogs. Round 1 was mostly against the cage, but Carlos Jr also landed a couple takedowns and secured the round. Round 2 saw Carlos Jr winning the striking exchanges and getting a takedown with a minute left which he maintained until the end of the round. It was 20-18 Carlos Jr heading to the third round. Carlos Jr smothered Gordon for the entirety of the 3rd round, locking up a submission in the last few seconds. We lose our 2 unit bet.
The second leg of our two team free parlay was Hacran Dias to defeat Levan Makashvili. The betting public was strongly on the side of Makashvili heading into the fight taking him down from 2.70 (+170) to 2.35 (+135). Round 1 was pretty even with very little landed in the way of notable strikes, but with Dias landing a last 30 seconds takedown and maintaining top control we scored it for him. Round 2 saw Makashvili land an early takedown, but Dias appeared to be more aggressive, locking up a couple close submission attempts. After Dias stood up, he was able to land a couple takedowns of his own. We had it 20-18 for Dias heading to the third, but it could easily have been 19-19 as the second was close. Round 3 was pretty clearly Makashvili’s as he landed a couple takedowns and pressed Dias up against the cage for the majority. We had it 29-28 Dias heading to the judges. The judges got it right awarding a split decision to Hacran Dias. We profit 1.78 units on our 2 unit bet.
The first leg of our free bet parlay was Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira to defeat Joe Merritt. The bet was 2 units at 1.89 (-112) and had Hacran Dias to defeat Levan Makashvili as the second leg. Round 1 saw Oliveira pressing Merritt against the cage and eventually landing a takedown. He got Merritt’s back and held it for a minute or so before Merritt reversed the position, but was unable to land anything from top position. Round 2 was more back and forth as Oliveira got an early takedown into mount, but was unable to hold the position and Merritt ended up on top. They got back up and Oliveira eventually landed a takedown, but gave up top position to Merritt with just a few seconds left in the round. We had it 20-18 for Oliveira going to the 3rd. Round 3 was the most clear in our opinion as Merritt appeared to be tired and Oliveira controlled the entire round, ending up on Merritt’s back. All 3 judges scored it 30-27 for Oliveira and leg 1 of our parlay is good!
We didn’t have to wait long for our second bet of the night as it was on the second fight of the night. Again, it was a 4 unit play, this time on Tony Sims to defeat Steve Montgomery. We got it at 2.23 (+123), but by fight time, the line had flipped and Sims had become a 1.87 (-115) favourite. We didn’t have to sweat this bet for long as Montgomery was lying face down thanks to a series of devastating strikes from Sims. We profit 4.92 units.
Our first bet of the night was also on the first fight of the night as we had 4 units on Sirwan Kakai to defeat Danny Martinez as a slight underdog at 2.25 (+125). The line was very close to flipping as the fight approached as the best odds you could get on Kakai just before the fight were 2.00 (+100) or so. Round 1 saw both guys landing a bunch of strikes, but we had Kakai getting the better of it as he dropped Martinez at one point and also landed a takedown. Round 2 was pretty even until Kakai got a takedown and kept top position for most of the round. We had it 20-18 Kakai heading to the third. Round 3 actually saw Martinez winning the early striking, but Kakai landed a takedown and maintained control for about a minute at the end of the round. When they stood back up, Martinez was swinging wildly, but Kakai actually appeared to land the more damaging shots. We had it 30-27 Kakai going to the judges. All 3 judges scored it 30-27 for Kakai and we profited 5 units.
